Lecture Series
Our third speaker this year will be the inspirational Dame Miriam Dell.

Dame Miriam was World President of the International Council Women from 1979-91, the first and so far only New Zealander to hold this office.

During that time she visited 64 of the 72 countries affiliated to the ICW, so she has a lot of varied and interesting stories to tell about her work and her travels. You may have heard Dame Miriam speak before but she promises she you will hear something different this time.
Here is just one of the many warm tributes paid to Dame Miriam for her work.
Her many contributions to women in NZ include promoting equal pay, education, the environment and conservation. She also served on commissions for UNESCO and the International Year of the Child, and the Suffrage Centennial Year Trust. Her focus was always on giving women, nationally and internationally, the capacity and confidence to make their own choices and use their talents to the full.

Venue: Wharekaka Day Room, Wharekaka, Oxford St, Martinborough. 10am for morning tea, 10.30-11.15 for the talk

Previous Lecture
On 12 April Stephen Oldfield from Milestone Financial Management spoke on wise investing, after the recent meltdown in the financial sector. A few of the commonsense points he made:
Diversification is vital (into different sectors not just into different finance companies!)
You can spend capital (judiciously)
The sharemarket remains a good place for long term investment
Investing in property is not risk free
Beware of commission-based advisors. They are not independent.

The Future of the Lecture Series
Unfortunately our bi-monthly series of talks is not attracting a big enough audience to warrant continuing. We have included a questionnaire with this newsletter, seeking your views on the sort of activities we should offer In future.

We hope this survey will shows us what we can do to attract more people or, failing that, what alternatives might be more popular.

Please do let us know your views.
