NZ Pacific Studio Artists’ Residency Centre

Summer is a wonderful time of year to be at New Zealand Pacific Studio, where artists / writers / academics / creative practitioners can take a week, a few weeks, or up to three months to focus on a specific project. We are now accepting applications for Summer 2017 / 18.

You might suggest to those who love you that a residency at NZ Pacific Studio would make a good Christmas present!

2017 Winter wrap-up National Poetry Day was celebrated on 25 August at Aratoi with poetry readings by local poets. NZPS residents added an international flavour with Leah Milanovic (AUS), NZPS 2017 Lavinia Fellow reading some of her own poems; and Carly Mann (UK) and John Galan (USA), displayed art work and spoke about their creative practice.

Our film fundraiser The Party was a sell out and raised $950 which will go towards our operations. Many thanks to those of you who joined us. It’s not often you leave a film with people laughing and saying ‘Well I didn’t expect that ending’. Trust House donated a voucher for nibbles from the Farriers so please thank them by having a drink or a meal there.

We farewelled Kate Kristiansen (Canada) and Carly Mann (UK), both very efficient House Managers and welcomed Christine Yardley (AUS) as our new House Manager. Christine is a great grand daughter of Christopher Burton who built Normandell in the early 1900’s so the studio is a special place for her. Christine was also the NZPS 2017 ANZAC Bridge Fellow. While at the studio Christine plans to work on sculpture, making glass masks of Burton Family.

November 2017

Both writers will be outreaching to the community – tba
