Celebrate Castlepoint's Rich Agricultural Heritage
22/02/12 21:57
THIS Sunday 26th February
The rugged and isolated coastal community of Castlepoint will welcome the world to the Wairarapa as part of the festivities celebrating the 2012 World Shearing Championships, being held in Masterton.
On Sunday, February 26th, a series of special events have been planned to celebrate the area’s rich agricultural and maritime history including rare opportunities to drive through the iconic Castlepoint Station, go inside the 99-year-old Castlepoint Lighthouse, and see a bullock team working.
Visitors are encouraged to step back in time and come dressed as they would have done 100 years ago and children are asked to bring their Teddy Bear to learn how to 'pretend shear' them.

Alzheimers Wairarapa Volunteers Required
22/02/12 21:53
DO YOU HAVE A SPARE FIVE HOURS ONCE A MONTH TO HELP YOUR LOCAL COMMUNITY?
Alzheimers Wairarapa has a wonderful Day Care Centre running on a Tuesday and Friday of each week. This gives our unique clients a fun day out where they participate in activities such as bowls, bingo, singing, outings etc. It also gives their carers a wee break. It runs from 10:00am till 3:00pm.
On these days there is the support of other volunteers and a trained Diversional Therapist. Your help is required to serve morning and afternoon tea, as well as serving lunch. (You also get a hot meal for lunch, and the morning and afternoon tea).
We require some more volunteers whom we can roster for one day each month – (which ever is convenient – either a Tuesday or a Friday).
It is a very rewarding day – helping our clients who are all lovely people and self-sufficient.
If you think you could assist once a month please contact Cherie at the Alzheimers Office – 377 0066.

Scouting Rimutaka
22/02/12 21:52
Scouting Rimutaka is alive and well and operating Scout groups in Masterton (Te Runga and Lansdowne) , Carterton and Greytown, as well as 4 more groups in Upper Hutt
The Kea Clubs have children (boys and girls at all ages) in School years 1-3 (aged from 5 ½ to 7 ½ ), and usually meet for an hour in the late afternoon
The Cub Packs are for children in School years 3-6, (aged 7 ½ to approx. 10 ½ ) and meet for an hour and a half in an evening
Scout Troops are for school years 6 – 10 (10 ½ to approx. 14 ½ ) and meet for 2 hours of an evening
We are just in the process of starting a Venturer Unit for the older youth based in Greytown.
Enquiries are welcome for places in the groups and we are recruiting adult supporters in the form of leaders and committee roles. Without adults we cant offer the amazing experiences we do. Training and uniforms provided free for adults and most groups have a substantial discount for leader’s children – an added incentive to spend great time with yours and others children.
Mudslide Day and our Zone Camp are the first major activities of the year on 17th – 19th February out at Gladstone
